Dentures Q & A

Why are Dentures Necessary?

Dentures are a way to replace one or more teeth that you’ve lost due to decay, accident, or illness. Partial dentures replace one to a few missing teeth, while a full set of dentures can replace a whole row of missing teeth. When you lose teeth, it affects the shape of your mouth and face. Dentures fill out your face, preventing sagging of the facial muscles.

The newer models of dentures look realistic and match your natural tooth and gum coloration. They can be made to look translucent and have shading, so people won’t notice you’re wearing them.

What Types of Dentures are Offered?

Northwest Dental Services offers two types of denture sets: Classic or an Interlocking Polymer Network.

The classic set is a functional, durable denture that’s a great option if you’re on a budget and want quality, but affordable, dentures. Advantages of the classic set include:

  • Solid, high-quality teeth
  • Great as transitional dentures
  • High resistance to breakage

Northwest Dental Services has offered classic sets to patients for more than two decades with positive results.

Interlocking polymer network dentures are an upgrade from the classic set. Each tooth in an IPN denture set has a blend of three different shaded layers of material to create a beautiful, natural look.

The benefits of IPN dentures include:

  • Proven wear-resistance structure that lasts more than 25 years
  • Personalization to your smile
  • A natural look with lifelike vitality and translucency
  • Five-year warranty against cracking, staining, loss of luster, and excessive wear

The doctors at Northwest Dental Services sit down with you to determine your goals, needs, and budget. They can help you determine which type of denture is best for you.

How Do I Care for Dentures?

Continue to practice good oral hygiene by brushing your gums, tongue, and the roof of your mouth to remove plaque before inserting your dentures.

Brush your dentures daily, too. Once you’ve removed them, rinse them with warm water, and use a soft-bristled toothbrush to brush all surfaces of the false teeth. Clean your mouth thoroughly, too, to reduce the risk of bad breath and build-up of bacteria. Store your dentures safely covered in water when you aren’t wearing them.
